Investing in Place to Improve Health Opportunities

Richmond, VA

September 18, 2019

Tackling the root causes of poor health has proven to yield economic and social benefits for both communities and hospitals. However, knowing where to begin and what role to play can be challenging. Join us to hear from national and local experts on how hospitals and health systems can invest in, build and support healthy communities and ensure a positive return on investment.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit two different examples of investments in community by touring innovative facilities in the Richmond-metro area that are already making a difference in addressing the health needs of vulnerable populations.

  1. Bon Secours Center for Healthy Living: Sarah Garland Jones Center
  2. VCU Health Hub @ 25th and Market @ 25th

Speakers to include:

  • Doug Jutte, M.D., MPH, Executive Director from Building Healthy Places Network on “Principles for Building Healthy and Prosperous Communities.”
  • Caroline Nowery, VP, Director of Community Investments from Virginia Community Capital will discuss resources available to facilities as they seek to invest in place to improve health opportunities and outcomes.
  • Amy Popovich, RN, Director of Nursing and Community Engagement and Keandra Holloway, Certified Community Health Worker, from Richmond City Health District on “A Relationship Based Approach to Health Equity.”
