Recognition by the business community of the need to invest in creating healthy communities is growing. Visionary leaders from business and emerging countries have met to talk about innovation and investments in communities. These leaders recognize the need for addressing social determinants of health in order to enhance the health and well-being of communities and to further the progress and success competitiveness and productivity of businesses. The Institute of Medicine Roundtable on Population Health Improvement commissioned the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO) to prepare a paper that identifies and describes organizations recognized as major players in improving community health; key documents and resources; and the business case for corporate investments in community health improvement.
